Hi everyone!
My names Alyson, but I mostly prefer to be called Aly! 🙂 I am in fourth year and majoring in Global Development.
A memorable moment in a workplace I had relatively recently took place a couple years ago while I was working as a hostess at a local restaurant. I was used to very basic hours from 8am-4pm due to an office placement I had the summer prior. While working at the restaurant I was given very random hours and I did not know the exact times of when I would be let off work. It was a little bit of a commute so sometimes I wondered if it was even worth my time as I was assuming they could possibly let me off after a short period depending on how busy it was, making my commute basically pointless. I learned that it is mandatory that I work 3 hours before being let off, which gave me some relief.
I think I’m looking forward to module 10 the most out of all the modules! The section about Constitutional Rights and the Charter’s impact on labour policy. After graduation I will be going to law school! I think this is right down my alley and it is the week I will be excited for!

Going into a new job is definitely a harder adjustment especially when you had a different experience with a prior job, especially with time commitment. I am also really interested in Chapter 10, just finding the topic of Charter’s impact on labour policy very interesting. This definitely seems like it will be perfect for you in the future, going down the path of Law school. That is super cool and very exciting!
Do you know what you will be going into career wise? And how do you think these employment courses will help you with your future endeavour into your career/law school?

I really enjoyed reading your introductory post. I am a 3rd year sociology student, and also working towards the Certificate of Employment Relations. I believe these classes are a great learning tool for understanding our rights and the legal side of the workplace. As you mentioned, you became aware of the proper hours and shift work at a previous job, this course will be a huge learning tool when it comes to understanding the workplace and policies within, which is very beneficial for our future. I am really interested in Module 10 too, as well as learning about Human Rights in Module 6.
Going back to school, you mentioned attending law school. That’s awesome! These courses will definitely be a great learning tool for you. What are your career plans?

That was a fantastic introductory, I have also worked in a restaurant and can completely relate to the unorthodox scheduling. What restaurant did you work at? What a coincidence, if you get the chance to see my post, I too am also excited for module 10. I think its awesome that you plan on attending law school, I wonder how much of this course will coincide with your future in law studies. It was great getting the chance to read a little bit about you, have a fantastic semester!
